Well not really secrets so much as some unpublished artwork! Artist Joe Ng was nice enough to give me some unreleased artwork from Transformers War Within: Age of Wrath #4. While there were several unreleased Dreamwave comics that were fully written or even fully pencilled, Age of Wrath #4 was one of those few that was actually fully complete right up to lettering.
All these pages are drawn by Joe, but actually half the issue was drawn by Marcelo Matere. Erik Sander did the inks, and we believe colors were by Eric Burns (both mine and Joe’s memories are a little fuzzy on this. Correct us if we’re wrong Eric!). And story is of course by Simon Furman. Simon actually sells copies of the scripts for Age of Wrath #4 & #5, and other unpublished TF comics at conventions and on ebay. Check out Simon’s blog for more info!
I plan to chat up a few more creators and see who wants to show off their stuff

Sooooo….. what’s happening here? What’s up with Grimlock’s weird looking (and way-too-fussy) body?
If I recall, Grimlock was “killed” in an earlier issue. But his spark somehow got stuck in a seeker body and rebuilt it into a half seeker half Grimlock. Something like that.
Really does make me sad that I can’t have the comic. Thanks though – amazing!
Wow… thank God Dreamwave died and IDW took the property! This is beyond stupid! Reminds me how bad the coloring was at dreamwave. War Within was probably the best from DW only only because Furman was writing Transformers comics where as the ongoing was just trying to reinvent Sunbow but this is just garbage.
Well, seeing as the the DW comics sold 10x what the IDW ones do i think a lot of folks would disagree with you, but everyone can like their own thing. I will agree that the G1 ongoing was crap written by an imbecile, probably the biggest jackass I have met in 10 years in the industry.
At the beggining? Yeah. But later?
Thank you for this. I’ve been slowly… ever so slowly… been able to get pages of this issue from various sources when artists showcase them, but they’ve always been uncolored, unlettered versions. These are the first fully realized pages I’ve seen! I noticed they are mis-labeled, though, as War Within 5, rather than 4.
Anyways, now I just need to some version of 1-4, 9-12, and 15, and I’ll have “some” form of the full comic.
You made my day
Glad to know someone else is piecing together this issue as well. Here’s some help for you.

Years ago TFW2005 had pages 2 and 4 as well. If memory serves, the 1st 5 pages of issue 4, and 2 pages from issue 5 were shown at or printed in the program for TFCon. I never saw the images myself tho, as I missed that bit of news by a few years. The image links on the page are broken and wayback machine net archive doesn’t have them either. Anyone backed ‘em up?
Ill have to take your word on 10X more than IDW because you ofcourse you work for IDW and know what their print volume is… Just because they were pumping out “10X more” doesn’t mean anything. Dreamwave was running off the hype of the return ofl G1 and that is why they made the diamond lists with volume one. You can print a million copies, doesn’t mean you’re making good comics. IDW. May be printing less but having the rights for 7 1/2 years, continuing to bring original stories aswell as being open to new talent and ofcourse paying the artists kinda makes them the superior.
And the numbers were going down pretty quickly, when te nostalgia factor was gone…
Not to mention the delays. What Id like to hear is the true down fall of Dreamwave all know Pat Lee used ghost artists and took credit, we knew he used stat panels what we don’t know is the truth. What really happened. What’s been released is that they went bankrupt blaming the weak U.S. Dollar, we know artists and writers were not getting paid AND we know that Pat Lee was transferring assets months before the announcment. Since according to you Dreamwave was better than IDW where was the money going?! That’s the million dolaar question isn’t it? Was the Lee family embezeling it? I’ve seen the reports of what was owed to who and the company was still selling books at the end, issue 10 came out 2 weeks before they announced bankruptcy so what happened. You opened this blog to reveal the secrets of DW but that’s the secrret everyone wants to know!
Can you please share the entire issue. War Within is my favourite TF series of all time and I would love to have Issue 4 and whatever exists for 5 and 6 as well?
Please and thank you
I second that. The unreleased pages contain some great artwork and it would be a shame if they never ever see light of day – both War Within and Ongoing. Thank you for sharing these few pages! More pieces to the puzzle…
I guess I need to find the old copies of the scripts again that Furman wrote.
How is ol’ NgBoy doing these days? He was always a good friend to have. With my own personal issues going on in my life, I kinda lost track of him. We caused all kinds of havoc back on seibs in the day. :-p
Matt, was Mcdonough/Mick really that much an ass? I enjoyed his run on G1, I’ve always considered fans accusations of redoing the old cartoon as fanboy ranting they wern’t getting furman on the ongoing, which I was happy for. I like furman, but enjoyed a breath of fresh air.
Mcdonough/Mick/whatever wasn’t the most professional guy on the block, and he definitely did put out some subpar material (micromasters) I did like the way the ongoing was moving along, and also enjoyed his spin on devil may cry. From the fans perspective looking in, he did have an oversized ego (which was likely more pronounced working next to him).
Hi, i feel that i noticed you visited my site so
i came to return the desire?.I’m trying to to find issues to enhance my site!I assume its ok to use some of your ideas!!
