It’s time once again for San Diego Comic Con, starting next Wednesday, July 11th! I’ll be there with UDON as usual, but am also promoting Bravoman for Bandai-Namco! Please come out to the UDON booth and say hello, or check out one of the two panels I’ll be speaking on (along with some fairly famous folks!)

You can find UDON at Booth #5037. That’s int he video game area right across from Capcom, EA, and THQ. We’ll be premiering the limited hardcover edition of Marvel VS Capcom: Official Complete Works, which I happen to be the editor & graphic designer on, and even wrote the foreword! We’ll also be premiering Disgaeart!!! Disgaea Official Illustration Collection, plus we’ll have tons of other great artbooks, and multiple artists sketching all day long.

I’m also on two panels during the show, check em out if you’re there!

Included will be sneak peek artwork, insight into the recruiting process for new artists, and a chance to win some of the company’s hottest new books. Moderated by Chris Butcher (Toronto Comic Arts Festival, UDON’s director of marketing), with participants Erik Ko (UDON CEO), Jim Zubkavich(project manager), Matt Moylan (managing editor), and UDON artists Joe Ng (Street Fighter IV) and Omar Dogan (Street Fighter Legends). Room 26AB

SATURDAY 11:00-12:00
Shifty Look— Namco Bandai Games has excavated the darkest corners of its vaults, and now the decrepit husks of games you’ve always loved (or never knew you did) have been brought back to life! Find out what’s next for ShiftyLook from Rob Pereyda (editor-in-chief), then join a spotlight on hit webcomic Bravoman from writer Matt Moylan (Lilformers) and artist Dax “D-Gee” Gordine (Mega Man Tribute). Next, webcomic superstars and Dig Dug 30th Anniversary contributors Scott Kurtz (PvP Online) and Kris Straub (chainsawsuit) make a big announcement fans with any sense of anything won’t want to miss! Finally, legendary voice actor Rob Paulsen (Animaniacs, Pinky & the Brain, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) makes a special appearance with an amazing ShiftyLook announcement that will blow everyone away. This will be the most fun you’ve ever had with ‘80s video games!

DREAMSLAVES #7: Energon MTMTE

by Matt Moylan on June 25, 2012 at 6:09 am
Posted In: Blog

Been a while I know guys! Super busy with UDON work, Bravoman, conventions and all that. But I want to get back into the swing of the blog, so here’ s a short on to get things rolling again.

I don’t think this full image has ever been revealed anywhere(parts of it have), but here is the full inter-connected covers for Transformers Armada/Energon More Than Meets the Eye. The MTMTE books were the Transformers profile books. Only the G1 and Armada series were ever released by Dreamwave (later Beast Wars was done by IDW), but an Energon series was also being worked on at the time of the DW bankruptcy.

The original Armada MTMTE series was written by James McDonough/Adam Patyk. Never really made any sense to me, it would have been more appropriate for Simon Furman to write it since he was the writer on most of the Armada comics series, but since McDonough was creative director he put himself on whatever projects he liked. When the time came Energon MTMTE, I made sure Simon would be the writer on it this time.

The  three Armada covers on the left(up to and including Unicron) were drawn by Joe Ng. I had the idea to continue the image with the Energon characters, starting on the right with issue #1 and moving back towards Unicorn, so it wouldn’t be known that they all connected until Energon MTMTE #3 was released. Joe was unavailable for the Energon covers, so Guido Guidi picked those up, and I did some fancy editing in the middle to make sure it all connected.

Unfortunately this entire series fell victim to the DW bankruptcy, and not a single issue was released. Simon had written a lot of it, and nearly all the artwork was completed (a mix of new art and box art).
