…you do know that in addition to the toys, Rumble’s also red in the Marvel, Dreamwave, and IDW comics, his Alternators and Robot Heroes toys are red, he’s red in the Japanese cartoons, and the show’s production bible calls him the red robot? He’s been red more than he’s been blue. Even if an error isn’t fixed, it’s still an error. It’s like saying “Well, people have been thinking ‘inflammable’ is the opposite of ‘flammable’ for years, so that makes it right!” Not to mention that all continuities are official, so considering the cartoon to be the only official one is pretty stupid.

I consider the cartoon as the official (it’s what made TF popular) so Rumble is blue and Frenzy is red.
It might started out as an error but it stuck trough the intire series from season 1 to 2 and 3 so can no longer be considered an error.
FIRRIB in the original cartoon (which started it all), Devil’s Due comics, Diamond select and War for Cybertron.
If you choose the toys as the originals source then Frenzy is indeed blue but then you have to be consisdant: If Frenzy is red and Rumble blue then Swindle is a buggy and not a jeep, Swoop is red instead of blue, Ratchet and Ironhide have their heads in their chests, Megatron has a big trigger between his legs, Blaster and Metroplex are the same size and Galvatron dwarfs Rodimus Prime.

We can only guess the colors if they would have been released in the Classics/Universe/Henkei lines. It is very possible that Universe/Henkei would be FIRFIB .

The constructicon thing in the cartoon is not all that complicated. The constructicons created Megatron (by accident as they were not evil yet) and Megatron then turned them evil with the Robo Smasher.
Being ‘build’ in Heavy Metal could simply mean rebuild to earth modes or perhaps simply rebuild after being destroyed/deactivated in the past.

I see…
The TV show took the name Frenzy literally and made him red (literally).
But I agree that Rumble is truly red and Frenzy is truly blue.

Officially, Rumble is red, and Frenzy is blue. As NCZ mentioned, the color swap in the cartoon was the result of a production error.

Rumble is identified as being “the red robot” in the show’s production bible. He was always meant to be red, and coming out as blue was an error. Even in the show itself, I call the blue guy “Frenzy” and the red one “Rumble.” (It really doesn’t matter, since they’re exactly the same in terms of powers, personality, voice, etc.)
