cucumba sounds more like a saya jin name. I mean, kakkarot=carrot. vegeta=vegetable. raditz=radish. brolli=broccoli. hell, even nappa’s got a name in the theme, if you look hard enough. nappa’s full of vineyards!

I don’t see the problem with Dragon Ball’s bad guys becoming good - It’s not like they did it on impulse. Though if you only have the games to go by in recent memory, then it certainly seems that way. Mainly because the games are dumbed-down nutshells which don’t do the manga series any justice.
