Lil Formers #112: Bear Wars
Who’s that coming, from somewhere up in the sky…
The battle-harden Ruxpin is one of my ideas from quite a while ago. Here’s a doodle of him from few years back, along with a story I made up on the spot

General Ruxpin is one bad-@$$ warrior! (Love the eyepatch.)
September 2nd, 2008 at 1:46 am
This is great! I wanna know where you get this stuff.
September 2nd, 2008 at 6:02 am
You know how you did that weekly Transformer thing awhile ago? This story needs to be told. Yes, it does. Who out there agrees with me?
September 2nd, 2008 at 7:33 am
Love the idea. You sure have quite the twisted and fantastic mind.
September 2nd, 2008 at 8:08 am
@ LamartheRevenger: I second the motion.

This might be my favorite on yet.
Good job
September 2nd, 2008 at 9:01 am
WOW - a friggin’ gummy bears reference…that is amazing. You sir, are the master of nostalgia.
September 2nd, 2008 at 10:06 am
If only the Carebears were that cool looking and mean all those years ago. It would have made those movies my sister watched “Bear”-able.
September 2nd, 2008 at 10:40 am
WTF this has gone too far CARE BEARS SERIOUSLY????BEAR WARS???
September 2nd, 2008 at 11:31 am
AWESOME!!!!! I agree with Lamar, the story of this Bear War needs to be told, in its full Lord of the Rings esque glory!

First thing I thought about after I read this was the Teddy Bear picnic song. The song can be really ominous if you take the whole song as euphemism for the bear war, check it out….
If you go out in the woods today
You’re sure of a big surprise.
If you go out in the woods today
You’d better go in disguise.
For every bear that ever there was
Will gather there for certain, because
Today’s the day the teddy bears have their picnic.
Picnic time for teddy bears,
The little teddy bears are having a lovely time today.
Watch them, catch them unawares,
And see them picnic on their holiday.
See them gaily dance about.
They love to play and shout.
And never have any cares.
At six o’clock their mommies and daddies
Will take them home to bed
Because they’re tired little teddy bears.
If you go out in the woods today,
You’d better not go alone.
It’s lovely out in the woods today,
But safer to stay at home.
For every bear that ever there was
Will gather there for certain, because
Today’s the day the teddy bears have their picnic
CHORUS
Every teddy bear, that’s been good
Is sure of a treat today
There’s lots of wonderful things to eat
And wonderful games to play
Beneath the trees, where nobody sees
They’ll hide and seek as long as they please
Today’s the day the teddy bears have their picnic
CHORUS
Yeah I know I’m a loser, but it’s been a really boring day at work!

RUBBISH i THOUGHT i could give you a second chance but oh no you have to go and wreck it with this ,face it he’s never gonna do another tf comic again
see ya matt i think youve lost quite a few fans in my opinion
anyway i don’t know why i’m moaning over these stupid comics anymore
September 2nd, 2008 at 3:49 pm
Ha ha ha! Fantastic. Don’t listen to the naysayers, Matt - just do whatever awesome ideas you come up with.
I also agree that we need to see the whole epic Bear Wars story.
September 2nd, 2008 at 4:18 pm
Bear Wars. Do it. May I suggest that somehow the Beanie Babies are involved. Maybe as cannonfodder or casualties of war as the diseased and dying.
September 2nd, 2008 at 4:31 pm
Awesome comic, tough at first I didn’t catch the reference. Anyway, I hope someday the guys asking for TFs comics shut up and leave or start appreciating the newer comics. Keep up the great work
September 2nd, 2008 at 5:48 pm
Well Matt, I don’t usually leave comments, but I thought you might like to hear from a transformers fan who loves all that you’ve done with the comics this year. Some nice fresh Jokes, from Ghostbusters to Gummi Bears, you’ve really got it all covered:) Keep up the great work.
September 2nd, 2008 at 10:05 pm
Well I wait each week for a new Lil Formers. As a TF fan I have to say that your TF’s were what got me hooked on this site. But I LOVE the new direction. Being a child of the 80’s I love all these new ones. We can look forward to ones from M.A.S.K., Rocklords, Silverhawks, Convertors, or Robo Force. I say keep up the new direction. For ever person that leaves I am sure a bunch more are just starting to learn about this great site. And the story of Bear Wars needs to be told Matt!
September 2nd, 2008 at 11:02 pm
I always thought it was strange how I’ve loved Care Bears since I was a little kid, yet I also love the Star Wars Empire and the Decepticons, seemingly so different …
It all makes sense now.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:42 pm
Cool! A whole Bear Wars as a separate series wold be great (as long as we aren’t deprived of weekly strip in the meantime). Maybe bring the Furbies into it, huh?
This reminds me a bit of the Imaginationland episode of South Park.
September 4th, 2008 at 1:52 am
Wow, Gummi Bears. Next thing will be a Turbo Teen reference.
In the Bear Wars do the Shirt Tales get hired as mercs? An elite group of commandoes that fly their car straight into the heart of the Care Bear HQ?
September 4th, 2008 at 4:09 am
I always wanted a teddy ruxpin. I finally found one at a thrift shop in college. I was so sad when i got him home to find that he was the type that took cartridges instead of tapes. So… I took him apart and then sculpted on top of his head for a school project: http://g36.net/ocdesigns/photos/me/jan_08_03_09.jpg that was ten years ago? The girl sitting with him I did this past year. X3
September 4th, 2008 at 2:31 pm
I would so read a strip based entirely around “The Bear Wars”
That would be fantastic!
September 4th, 2008 at 3:11 pm
awsome work keep up and dont give up keep making the brilliant strips man it enlightens my week! lol. a bear wars comic series? love the idea AWSOME!!!!!!!
September 4th, 2008 at 4:19 pm
Hahahahaha! Awesome comic. I agree-the story must be told.
September 4th, 2008 at 11:24 pm
lol
September 5th, 2008 at 7:07 am
Love this strip been reading for a long time man but after hearing some of the complaints from some people moaning about the lack of Transformers I had to chime in. You do this for FREE and for our amusement. I enjoyed the TF strips. loved seeing your comic appear in IDW and prettymuch have had a great time.
I’ll continue to have a great time because even though these strips no longer “currently” feature the transformers you still appear to put the same amount of thought and care into them for your fans. So well done keep up the good work. “Till All Are One!”
September 5th, 2008 at 7:09 am
PS. I also side with others that the Bear Wars story needs to be told. If you don’t want to I’d reccomend sharing an outline of it with someone you trust and have them do it for you.
September 5th, 2008 at 8:55 am
Just a thought if you go through with the Bear Wars.
Add the genocide of the Care Bear Cousins
September 5th, 2008 at 10:18 am
Guys it’s Matts site, he doesn’t charge us for this stuff, so who are we to tell him what to do, either role with it or get the hell of the message boards.
Just STOP the pissing and moaning FFS.
Nice one btw Matt
September 5th, 2008 at 3:16 pm
This is fun stuff, whether its bots or bears or Waldo starring in Die Hard. All you people whining about bots, try to enjoy the great stuff this guys is working hard to put out for us.
September 6th, 2008 at 8:45 am
Cool.
September 6th, 2008 at 4:45 pm
my nu fav on this site. lol
September 6th, 2008 at 5:22 pm
you know, i have completly forgetton how i actully came across the site in the first place
September 7th, 2008 at 12:47 am
Oh man Matt! That was FUNNY! Keep up teh awesomeness!
September 7th, 2008 at 5:06 pm
cool but what happened to the transformer comics?
September 10th, 2008 at 8:55 pm
You could have Paddington as an informant, trading information for marmalade sandwhiches. Banjo and Kazooie would probably start on the Gummi Bears side, then get traded to the Care Bears for no apparent reason.
September 13th, 2008 at 12:19 am
Disturbing, but also quite hilarious.
I actually didn’t recognize Teddy Ruxpin until I read your note. Quite unfortunate, since I really did love him as a child. My family had some books (complete with the cassette tapes!) about his adventures, and even the electronic toy version of Ruxpin. (The good news for the toy is that it was well-loved. The bad news: it was well-loved. >_> )
Care Bears was easily recognizable since it’s still popular and also better-known — books, toys, tv series, movies — than Gummi Bears (think there was only the tv show, sadly). I honestly think that if there ever were a Bear War, the Care Bears would win hands down. Sorry, Gummi Bears…
September 13th, 2008 at 12:33 am
*whoops* I completely forgot in my comment to say this: I do miss you having your web-comic focused on Transformers, but I’m not going to complain. You’re the one who came up with this website, don’t charge us a fee, write the dialogue… Basically, you are the one who does all the work and it’s yours to do with what you will.
I know you don’t need me to tell you all that; I am just mostly directing it to the other people who keep bemoaning the changes you have made. (I think you take those complaints in stride quite well, by the way)
September 13th, 2008 at 11:17 pm
Disturbing…yet hilarious!!!!
September 15th, 2008 at 12:32 pm
Sorry, Care Bears were never really my thing.
September 21st, 2008 at 9:49 pm
Hehe, DIE GUMMI GLEN! DIE!
September 28th, 2008 at 11:54 pm
“Care Bears, prepare to GLARE!”
October 6th, 2008 at 12:36 am
The first thing that sprang to mind on seeing this was the Penny Arcade strip “The Reimagining”.

October 26th, 2008 at 2:02 pm
I always knew those Care Bears were up to something…
Great strip. Reminds me of an expo I went to back in ‘87 (I think), when I met Teddy Ruxpin…

Meet Megatron’s new army.
November 20th, 2008 at 10:11 pm

November 27th, 2008 at 12:11 pm
Do you have any idea the nostalgia you are stirring up with every bloody post? ^__^ I think I cried a little back when you did the He-Man/She-Ra comic and everyone was asking who Bow was. Now people from my generation (old enough to have watched - and remembered - 80’s cartoons when they were aired THE FIRST TIME) are tuning in to your work and it’s awesome to see so many older fans.
Your work is still the stuff of legends, bro. Keep it up.
