Lil Formers #118: Gargoyles TNG
Always loved all the Star Trek voices in Gargoyles. I could’ve actually expanded the view to include Geordi & Data too as their Gargoyles characters, but might’ve been a bit drowded
For those interested, Trek voices in Gargoyles included:
Jonathon Frakes (Riker) - Xanatos
Marina Sirtis (Troi) - Demona
Brent Spiner (Data) - Puck
Micahel Dorn (Worf) - Coldstone
Levar Burton (Laforge) - Anansi
Colm Meany (Chief Obrien) - Mr Dugan
Avery Brooks (Sisko) - Nokkar
Kate Mulgrew (Janeway) - Titania
Nichelle Nicols (Uhura) - Diana Maza
A bunch of other Trek guest stars have also been voices on Gargoyles liek Matt Frewer, Clancy Brown, John Rhys Davies, Paul Winfield, and David Warner.
And you guys thought I knew a lot about TF

First, I would like to say I am a huge fan of your site, the approach is simple, but the impact is huge and complex, and for that, I thank you. Second, and the reason why I am posting, this comic struck a nerve with me in many ways. I too am a huge Trek fan (since 7 years old, now 27.) and I was also a fan of Gargoyles (the only thing from Disney I ever liked.), and this comic really touched me, made me smile than ever before, and you really made my night for tonight. Thank you for your contribution not only to the Tranformers fandom, but the other fantasy fandoms that exist.

“Troi” was “Demona?” O_O Talk about a flipping of characters. Speaks to Marina Sirtis’s talent with characters that she can play both ends of the spectrum like that.

Only lilformers.com dares to ask the real tough questions! :p
I loved both shows. I have heard that one of the reasons Stewart wasn’t on board of Gargoyles was he was working in the UK at the time and was contracted under a different agency. But they should have been able to work around that, right? See, the captain always gets excluded.
October 13th, 2008 at 6:25 am
Oh, picard’s busy enough doing voice overs on every bloody thing ever on uk tv, he’s too busy for such toons….
October 13th, 2008 at 7:41 am
From what I read they were interested, Stewart might also have been interested. It’s Patrick Stewart though, Gargoyles couldn’t afford his fee.
October 13th, 2008 at 8:15 am
But Randallw, Gargoyles was produced by Disney, they could have bought Patrick Stewart, let alone his acting fee.
And very clever Matt, I always liked Gargoyles myself, well until the final series that aired on ABC, it was good, but not great.

Do a full drowning in gargoyles wallpaper!
October 13th, 2008 at 9:52 am
At first I didn’t get it but yea, lol.
October 13th, 2008 at 10:05 am
Gargoyles!!!!! Star Trek!!!!!! GREEAAAAT!!!! ^^ as you see i am soo happy to see this…and i learned another trivia i did not know until now… the voice actors of gargoyls played some of my favorite Starfleet Characters (i am from Grmany so i did not know this fact - that would have ben obvious i think, if i knew the original voices)
This is so awsome !! ^^
October 13th, 2008 at 11:05 am
Well, at least he got to do voice acting in Elder Scrolls: Oblivion!
October 13th, 2008 at 11:28 am
William Shatner should do voice acting.
For example, William Shatner as an Autobot:
“The Decepticons… are attacking!… Optimus! We must… come up with… a plan… to… defeat!… them.”
October 13th, 2008 at 11:31 am
When it comes to Levar Burton, I will always think of PBS’s “Reading Rainbow”…
October 13th, 2008 at 11:50 am
Cool comic this week. Gargoyles is one of my fav cartoon series, and I loved hearing all the Star Trek voices throughout the series.
You should take a look at Disney’s Hercules series. Holds the record for the highest number of guest stars in one season. Even has Shatner and Nimoy as Jason and the Argonauts.
October 13th, 2008 at 11:51 am
Wow, who knew Star Trek was so involved in Gargoyles?
I’m a fan of both, so thanks for this comic, it’s a really good one.
October 13th, 2008 at 12:06 pm
I’ve been looking forward to this since strip 100. And that joke is so well played, I love it. For those curious about the performances, you can check out the series (most of it), on DVD.

YUS~~~ *wants to have Matt’s babies* This is the comic I have been waiting. This is beautiful. You’ve outdone yourself. Take a week off, the awesome will last.
~*KA*~
October 13th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
Well..Captain Picard couldn’t do it…Cause Captain JAneway DID, you see. You can only have one Captain. And Sisko doesn’t count..he’s more of a Governor than a Captain. Also: BAdass with a Gun and shades. And where the hell was Wesely????
October 13th, 2008 at 3:09 pm
Hi Matt,
According to Greg Weisman, Gargoyles creator, he wanted Patrick Stewart to do a voice over for the show, but his asking fee was too much –;. Instead of Gargoyles, Stewart went on to voice a book in the forgettable movie, The Pagemaster ;b!
October 13th, 2008 at 4:50 pm
ya know, i knew a couple of those voices sounded familiar but i never realized that many were there.
and John Rhys Davies is in bloody everything! from star trek to vid games i swear every time i turn my head he’s there!
i still remember him best as Paladin in the later Wing Commander games
trying to recall what other games he was in.. wasn’t it a Mech Warrior game post M$ takeover and bastardization?

I know why you weren’t invited, sir… BECAUSE YOU’RE WEARING A RED SHIRT.

Gargoyles is tied with Exosquad as the coolest animated series not done by a japanese company. I showed this to my nephew during the summer and it blew his mind. Xanatos’s “pay a man enough, and he’ll walk barefoot into hell” line ranks as one of my favorite lines ever in a TV series. And as a Star Trek fan me and my friend back in high school had so much fun spotting the voices from Star Trek. Though I do gotta admit, it took me paying attention to the credits to spot Brent Spiner. That guy has got some serious range as an actor.
October 14th, 2008 at 5:09 pm
Awesome Comic this week, I wish they would release Gargoyles Season 2 vol. 2 on DVD:( But I love both shows immensely.
October 14th, 2008 at 5:51 pm
Screw the bots, this should become LilGoyles (half sarcasm)
Anyway, great comic, it’s a pity I’ve only seen Gargoyles with the spanish dub, I need to find the DVDs of the series to hear the voices of Star Trek characters
October 15th, 2008 at 12:31 am
Interesting fact: Brent Spiner did not play Owen, who was Puck’s secret identity. That honor went to a prolific but mostly unknown talent, Jeff Bennett. You may know him better as Dexter’s dad on Dexter’s Lab, or Freakazoid!’s The Huntsman or Candlejack. The more you kn
October 15th, 2008 at 2:42 am
Jeff Bennet also did the voices of The Magus and Brooklyn. in the season 2 special features there is an interview with him where he does all three voices having a brief conversation with eachother perfectly.
October 15th, 2008 at 11:00 pm
GRRRRR…still mad they are not releasing the rest of the gargoyles dvds…but we they will direct to video sequels of movies that have not been seen for ages…
October 16th, 2008 at 11:58 am
man, Matt. Ever since you stopped doing transformers comics I don’t get the inside jokes anymore.
October 16th, 2008 at 5:41 pm
Oh, man. I’ve never watched Gargoyles (though my friends have told me its great) though with all of those Star Trek voices? I AM SO THERE.
October 18th, 2008 at 12:59 pm
If gargoyles were on space…counts as night or day?, I mean imagine Stargoyles?.
October 18th, 2008 at 3:56 pm
See, Paula B’s comment is why Matt’s decision to change his strip to more than Transformers is a great one. Bring more fans to amazing shows like Gargoyles are what it’s all about.
And to “who cares?” trust us. Watch the first two seasons of Gargoyles and see an amazing show that ended way too early.
Thanks Matt! Keep it coming!
October 18th, 2008 at 8:20 pm
W00T man! I never thought my favorite cartoon of the 90’s was done by the people from my all-time favorite sci-fi show.
October 19th, 2008 at 11:01 pm
I love this comic!! And I have to agree w/all the Gargoyles fans as well: I thought the show was just hitting its stride when they stopped producing it
October 20th, 2008 at 3:50 am
Love the comic, great job
…and about “Gargoyles”, IMHO… I loved the show in it’s beginning, it looked very promising…but from the point when Goliath, Angela, Elisa and Bronx leave Avalon (mid-2nd season) and start to travel around the world for GodKnowsHowMany episodes (while for all the others very little time has passed and basically nothing happens) it all became increasingly pointless for me, lame re-interpretation of every possible myth and legend that exists in the world. The result: the original plot got completely lost along the way, and it was nigh impossible to make a believable return…..until someone mercifully clicked “cancel”.
October 20th, 2008 at 11:25 pm
Yeah, Stewart is like the James Earl Jones of UK VA-ing
Years back I also made an (not as) interesting connection to Star Trek actors. A lot of them have guested on Matlock, you know, the one where Andy Griffith puts young people where they belong, in prison. Without opening a new tab and looking on IMDB I’m confidant I can name these:
Nana Visitor (Kira Nures) - at least two appearances as different people
Robert Beltran (Chakotay)
Tim Russ (Tuvok)
Jeri Ryan (7 of 9) - she and her room mate blackmailed and killed a guy
Rene Aberjen??? (Odo)
Avery Brooks (Sisko)
Marc Alamo (Gul Dukat)
The guy who played Garak (Garak)
That’s thanks to my Mom and I watching it after school.
(you can tell I didn’t cheat because I’m sure I spelled some names wrong)

Picard: “Number One”
Riker: “Yes, Captain.”
Picard: “Let me ask you this: If I were to whisper in your ear that Commander Worf’s head looks like a fanny, would you join me in a laugh?”
Riker: “Yeah, I could get in on that!”
Picard: “Well then, here it comes! COMMANDER WORF’S HEAD LOOKS LIKE A FANNY!!!”
(Everyone laughs except Worf who is pissed.)
Worf: “YOU CAN BOTH SUCK MY RIDGES!”
Picard: “Oh, get a sense of humor, Rocky Dennis!”

wwwwwooooowwwww!!!!!
October 30th, 2008 at 4:41 am
To further what’s said above, Stewart was to play MacBeth, but he cost too much, so they got Rhy’s Davies to do a Stewart voice:)
November 2nd, 2008 at 3:27 pm
Again with the “huh?” I thought that I was a big sci-fi geek, I don’t even know half of the Sci-fi things out there.
December 3rd, 2008 at 3:50 pm
Also worth mention, though not Trek actors–Bill Fagerbakke as Broadway (Tom Cullen in The Stand, Dobber on Coach), Ed Asner as Hudson (title role in Lou Grant, for one), Laura San Giacomo as Fox (Nadine Cross in The Stand, Rhetta on Saving Grace, Kit De Luca in Pretty Woman, Crazy Cora in Quigley Down Under…Come to think of it, Rene Auberjonois/Odo was in that, too)
May 19th, 2009 at 12:39 am
Micheal Dorn’s gonna voice Mata Nui in the new BIONICLE movie this year ^_^
December 3rd, 2009 at 10:59 pm
Patrick stewart was pretty famous over in the UK when he started Trek, and no slouch in the US either. Most of the others hadn’t had big roles until Trek.
It’ll set you up for life, but ruin your career.
