Lil Formers #122: Faker
Nobody ever figured out the Prince Adam/He-man thing, so I’m not surprised Skeletor thought Faker was a good idea.

I think the same concept applies to superman. It’s just a pair of glasses and a part of the hair that separates them.

Not good observers, but their girls were always hot!

I have no idea what your talking about. I look at this picture and I can’t tell the difference. 83

The super man thing is often attributed to someone so geeky can’t be in reality something so cool. That would work in this case except for… well, the blue skin and orange hair.

That’s what I liked about the new He-Man episodes - Adam actually bulked up as well as becoming more confident when he became He-Man, creating an actual difference between the two characters, rather than just using the power of Greyskull for a spiffy clothes change.
Still doesn’t explain why Faker ever appeared to be a good idea…
Although Matt, I have to say that I really prefered your strips when they were just about the Transformers. A lot of the jokes since have become somewhat “obvious” and less inventive.
The art remains amazing though.

To be fair, the Eternians were all probably just distracted by what the heck Snout Spout was!
November 10th, 2008 at 10:03 am
How could those Eternians not notice the square speech bubbles? haha, Matt this is a good one.
November 10th, 2008 at 10:48 am
I always wondered how square bubbles rang–

@Seraphim Prime: His voice got deeper, too; it was like the Power of Greyskull pushed him straight through puberty and back…
And, for the record, waaaay back in the original series, when Skeletor made Faker, he did look exactly like the original He-Man… except for the glowing white eyes and echo in his speech. Yes, the show made a better attempt than the action figure ever did.
And Matt, keep it up. It doesn’t have to be TF to be funny!

AHH Faker, Funny stuff! I loved MOTU when I was a kid, becuase if you knew the Characters name, you knew their power. And if you forgot the characters name, all you had to do was remember their power. My favorite was Man-e-Faces: “What was his power again, oh yeah, he has a bunch of face… Awesome!!!” Oh the simplicity of being a child.
Great one Matt. Don’t listen to the haters, you don’t need Robots to make your strip funny.
That said I will contradict myself immediatly saying; the rumors about the new Transformers movie just begs to be made fun of. Have you heard the rumor that Isabel Lucas’s character maybe a pretender, my lord the idea alone is comedy gold. If you haven’t heard here’s a link: http://www.aintitcool.com/node/38993

i loved he man and the masters of the universe, though i was too young to remember much about the series. I picked up the original first season on DVD to see if it compared well to the newer series. I was actually suprised at the fact that they not only did a good job with the newer series but actually built more into it in a way that wasnt bad at all. I dont honestly remember faker, but i do remember some of the corny villans, and it is funny how you dont notice them. The one thing that struck me as odd about the original that they fixed in the newer ones, is that noone could tell it was adam even though heman had his sword. at least in the newer version the sword changes slightly so it still resembles it’s self, but it clearly different to the observer.

Faker lacks a goatee, that’s why they can’t tell them apart.
It is the only way to recognize one’s evil twin/clone!!

Great art as always, Matt. Keep up the pointing out the unintentional comedy that was our childhoods.
As for Sup’s… Saturday Night Live did a great sketch once about the Super/Clark thing. One time he walked in as Clark with part of the cape sticking out of his collar and his boots on rather than Clark’s shoes.
There was also a cover of when Cyborg-Superman was a part of the Sinestro Corp. and had beaten Superman. He was putting on Clark’s glasses. I’m surprised Hal, who was flying in from the background, didn’t think Cyborg-Sups wasn’t Clark.
@kiselkupus : does that mean that Cmdr. Riker was his evil twin for most of ST:tNG since he started, and later in the movies shaved off his beard?
November 11th, 2008 at 6:50 am
@Nanashi Eru….Riker wore sideburns, so it’s technically not a goatee, but a trimmed full beard. Clean-shaven and full-bearded guys are generally “good”, and those sporting a goatee or a moustache are most probably “evil”…..a silly convention which is applied in 90% of fictional material. How else would you be able to tell which David Hasselhoff is evil?
November 11th, 2008 at 3:21 pm
This would apply to ALL cartoons. Transformers got away with it cos the Decepticons were so good at making an Optimus Prime duplicate.
November 11th, 2008 at 5:32 pm
Yeah, Joe, but Transformers got away with loads as far as animation was concerned! I still remember one of the episodes where Optimus Prime was briefing a bunch of autobots and all you saw for about five minutes was the back of Prime’s head!!! lol
November 11th, 2008 at 6:18 pm
And if even his speech bubble’s aren’t enough, there’s also the fact that he wears the same freaking clothes as Skeletor!
November 11th, 2008 at 11:42 pm
Nice one, Matt! I love the way you drew the duplicate, with the brown pants and evil blond hair!
November 12th, 2008 at 5:56 pm
The explanation for all the alter-ego, clones and evil bearded twins, is that all heros. surround themselves with idiots, especially on the villains case, which repeatedly state it in their particular series, on the superman issue, well Lois pretty much “spends” time with both and never notice, so im guessing the DC world of superheros is ruled by one truth -If you’re not super, you are an idiot, if you are super you might not be-

Why is it that most of the time I can not see any graphics on this site? Huh? Huh? Huh? Huh? Huh?
November 16th, 2008 at 11:19 am
Don’t forget his purple loincloth.
November 17th, 2008 at 11:50 am
For the record - I’m not hating on the lack of TFs in the strips anymore.
I’m just saying that the jokes seem a lot more about “hey - look at this flaw!” than thinking of a funny situation that would arise from a particular characters characteristics. There just seemed to be more of the latter in the TF days.
If these types of jokes could be made with the current outlook on using all sorts of pop-culture, then Lil Formers could be even better!
Continued loyal reader.

Haha! Faker was one cool-ass character.

I just saw an episode of Robot Chicken with a skit like this.
February 20th, 2009 at 7:23 pm
I am rather surprised they don’t get it. Yes, the appearance IS very different, but there is the simple fact that He-Man and Adam are only seen together when people SERIOUSLY question if they are the same person.
They need to think about it. Every time Adam is kidnapped, by himself or with someone else, Adam either rescues himself, or He-Man shows up, rescues him off screen. He-Man then sends the relatively-defenseless prince back home on his own, from the heart of enemy territory, while He-Man goes on to rescue the theoretically much more able ‘Masters’.
Not to mention the whole, “will never leave his sword behind, EVER” attitude the ‘foppish’ prince has. And the fact that He-Man and Adam both have over-sized, GREEN, TALKING CATS! Yes the attitude and appearance are very different, but still I think with all the shape-changing that the series does at some point or another the thought would come up.
