Lil Formers #124: Marv-elle
Mostly spurred by recent Marvel Universe additions Lady Bullseye and the female Black Panther. I really did have some trouble thinking of well known Marvel heroes who don’t have female equivalents these days. Though, DC is no better.
Everyone on the wall is really a Marvel character…yes, even Thor Girl.
*Note: This strip actually predates the creation of Galacta, who is now a real Marvel character.

November 24th, 2008 at 1:27 am
Finally, MARVEL characters!
November 24th, 2008 at 1:31 am
W8, there is a female cyclops and daredevil now!? I only knew of She-Hulk and Spider-Girl. Still, i ♥ Marvel =D
November 24th, 2008 at 1:43 am
Thor Girl?!? Really?!? Is there a Wolveriness or something like that?!?
btw, your she-clops looks hot
November 24th, 2008 at 1:50 am
Don’t forget Miss Sinister.
Fago, the female Wolverine is called X23.
November 24th, 2008 at 1:54 am
@ZoshuaX -W8, there is a female cyclops and daredevil now!? I only knew of She-Hulk and Spider-Girl. Still, i ♥ Marvel =D-
No, he’s kidding. That part is the joke.
November 24th, 2008 at 2:17 am
Gah! So true.
It’s like the entire Marvel Universe caught the She-Ra virus.
November 24th, 2008 at 3:42 am
Most of the times, the only thing that can save a femenine version of a Known superhero is a) strong, developed character b) look totally hot on an spandex suit (could be an exception, for example, if there is a case of a female Punisher)
November 24th, 2008 at 4:52 am
Actaully there has been a female Cyclops, Summer Scott who appeared in one of the realities the Exiles visited. As for a female Daredevil, in one issue of the New Avengers, Echo appeared in Dare Devils costume.
There have been several female Wolverines, X-23 his clone, and Wildthing his daughter.
I’m curious about what names are blocked.
November 24th, 2008 at 6:54 am
This drives me nuts - why can’t comic books have female superheroes with THEIR OWN schtick, instead of someone else’s as a crutch. One of my pet peeves with comic books.
November 24th, 2008 at 7:18 am
I don’t think Deadpool has a female counterpart yet
November 24th, 2008 at 8:22 am
As the wise proprietor of this site once said, “House of Idea”. Singular.
And already spent eons ago…
November 24th, 2008 at 8:30 am
Does ironman have a female counter part
November 24th, 2008 at 10:12 am
Yes Iron Maiden. The problem is that there are not many cool names left(X23 is good example, wasn’t anything better left for her?), this for both gender, also powers choice had becoming limiting(if its green and superstrong what name you could choose?)(or if has spiderthemed powers, or shot blast from eyes, etc…) . After the female version of heroes, we got the young version, the cyber version, the iron man version(everyone want a an armous after the movie) and for brief period the hulk version, the vampire version, the werewolf version, undead, aaaannd the dark gritty ones….
November 24th, 2008 at 12:34 pm
honestly, that’s kinda disturbing.
November 24th, 2008 at 1:11 pm
the female counter part i can handle. It’s the mid-drift that i don’t get.
November 24th, 2008 at 1:15 pm
Totally agree. As a comic book writer myself I always cringe when this is done. Its not so bad when they have a character who has powers similar to a male character’s powers. Example: A heroine who uses power armor. That would be fine. Then you call her Iron Maiden? That is just sad.
November 24th, 2008 at 1:29 pm
Let’s see the female Marvel characters there have been… excluding alternate realities and such.
Mastermind and Lady Mastermind, both daughters of the mutant called Mastermind. Talon (aka X-23) and her fellow clone sisters (forty-nine) of Wolverine. Lady Sinister, clone of Mister Sinister. The daughters of Kraven the Hunter, Tarantula and Batroc the Leaper who all attempted to carry on the legacy of their fathers. The sex-changed, if even temporary, Loki and Ultron. There was Lady Punisher in the 90’s during that whole Punisher war-fiasco. The current Lady Bullseye, as well as the Black Panther, plus classic characters of She-Hulk, Spider-Women (plural!) and even Wasp (technically Ant-Man). You had a female Red Guardian (Russian Captain America). There’s the sister of Sunfire, Sunpyre, who eventually died and was replaced with an alternate reality version…. and okay, too much inner geek showing through now
November 24th, 2008 at 1:56 pm
Just be glad that they are female counterparts, and noth the actual characters going drag. -_-’
November 24th, 2008 at 2:33 pm
I now about Nocturn is Nightcrawler’s Daughter. good thing there no female verison of Iceman.
November 24th, 2008 at 3:02 pm
Iron maiden
wait a minute there isn’t really an iron maiden in marvel is there????
November 24th, 2008 at 3:21 pm
Yeah, there’s an Iron Maiden from the “Earth X” continuity. She was a scientist who fell into a batch of experimental Vibranium alloy. She was encased in a grey Vibranium body and could form weapons from her body.
November 24th, 2008 at 3:50 pm
Yikes! The Cyclops looks more TG than female version.
November 24th, 2008 at 4:40 pm
Iron Maiden made me laugh. XD
November 24th, 2008 at 4:46 pm
There’s no female Wonder-Man, Union Jack, Vision, and a bunch of even more obscure heroes that only nerds like me know.
I’m waiting for a male Ms. Marvel.
November 24th, 2008 at 5:08 pm
wtf
November 24th, 2008 at 5:44 pm
…is that one on the end “lady hawke” or “lady hawkeye”?
cos the former is a pretty decent band
November 24th, 2008 at 8:47 pm
If there was a female Wonder Man it would probably be called Wonder Woman and that would lead into a whole bunch of legal problems.
November 24th, 2008 at 9:03 pm
Iron Maiden is actually a Russian spy who fought Black Widow a couple of times. She ahs nothing to do with Iron Man. Sorry, couldn’t let that mistake go by.
November 24th, 2008 at 9:43 pm
lol iron maiden
November 24th, 2008 at 11:19 pm
@ Uber Geek:
Nope no mistake, I was thinking of the one from Earth X.
November 24th, 2008 at 11:35 pm
Still don’t get the whole “female version of male main character”. Never mind that there are no male equivalents (that I know of) for female original characters, the gals don’t need to leech the guys’ powers: between Storm, Rogue, Phoenix, Tigra and Black Cat, they’re plenty capable of whipping butt on their own merits.
November 25th, 2008 at 2:20 am
@python
there have been a few male counterparts to ms marvel. Quasar is the closest to her style and abilities besides the original capt marvel
November 25th, 2008 at 4:01 am
Spider-woman (the original Jessica Drew) really isn’t connected to Spider-man. And I don’t mind some of the female takes on male comic characters (or vice versa) some of the characters you listed are alternate dimension characters like American Dream (havn’t all the Thor Girl’s been from What Ifs?)
November 25th, 2008 at 6:57 am
Don’t hate me…but i honestly think that the whole concept of superheroes has become ridiculous and should had been euthanized quite some time ago, and all this re-re-re-re-re-recycling of same ol’ B.S. (or „re-imagining“) proves it. There are only so many powers, abilities and origin stories that make sense somewhat, chewing it all up and spitting out for the X-th time makes no sense at all…
I found the concept entertaining as a kid, but now I think it’s completely obsolete. It was an outstanding cultural phenomenon, it made its (more than solid) mark in history, and should had been put out with honors sometime in early ’90s…..but these things just won’t die.
I’m absolutely positive my grandkids (hope I’ll have’em someday) will still be reading Spider-man, but theirs won’t get bitten by a radioactive spider or a genetically-modified one……..probably a demonic undead mutated spider from hell infused with nano-machines will hack into Peter’s implanted USB port.
Again, this is my personal opinion and I’m not judging the people who like this stuff….I enjoy it also from time to time, but I’m simply being realistic
November 25th, 2008 at 8:11 am
I hate you, but don’t worry, I hate 80% of humakind(included myself).
Anyway I think that entire problem is that , as you pointed out, in the end graphics apart, there are only a lmited amout of powers and origins. Also something that make sense in past , do not make sense NOW.(albeint for some only a lil upgrade is needed.) For the entrie female counterpart, there ar emany factors. Powers are similars, wish to emulate, family bond, and yes the fanservice too(all heroines had to show as much skin as possible…and if in japan and drawn by oh great! they will likely end up fighting naked). As for non superheor comics. Some are great…still epic and more than human somehow(Most fo the non super comic I read, effectively had lot of heroism, epic and non average drama…remeber normality is extremely boring if you don’t add some level of crisis to it…evne James Joyce’s Ulysses or Waiting for Godot had lot of unearthly level of inside crisis..not all villains wear costumes or are real…the worst ar ethose inside us)…Next time i’ll talk about bond of sueprhoric comics to classic mythology and relation between Dante’s Divina Commedia and dark vigilante’s heroes in fiction…lesson is over
November 25th, 2008 at 8:47 am
Thor Girl’s the one that cracks me up! Remember in Earth X where Odin punishes Thor by making him a superhot girl? That was some awkward reading!
November 25th, 2008 at 2:41 pm
Surprising the mutated nano-bot hell spider idea hasn’t been used. USB port. Hahaha. One day, there be Iron-Spider-Sinister-Vision. Over the top? Definately. Maybe Marvel need to revamp. Get rid of some of the lesser loved characters, and redistributed their powers among new people. With new exciting origins. No hell spiders though.
November 25th, 2008 at 5:07 pm
Just as long as they keep Deadpool around. Marvel needs his brand of crazy.
But man, a female version of him. That’d be wierd, but probably something he’d expect.
November 26th, 2008 at 1:59 am
I felt the same exact way the moment I saw She-Thing …. HORRIBLE!
They need to stop!
November 26th, 2008 at 4:12 am
In the reality of Summer Scott there was also a female Bobby Drake, and a male version of Marvel Girl (Jean).
As for a female Deadpool. At one time different aspects of his personality were sucked out of him. One of the last ones was his Feminine side represented by a blonde chick.
(I’m not up to date on all the female versions of Hero’s I just read Exiles and Deadpool. I stumbled upon the Echo thing by accident. She’s deaf instead of blind)
November 26th, 2008 at 5:07 am
Ultimate Vision is a hot Sorayama-esq robo girl.
Siryn, Banshee’s daughter.
Morph debuted over ten years before Mystique, but it’s debatable if they have a connection.
What I wanna see is a a female version of The Thing
-wait, no, on second thought I don’t want to see that.
November 26th, 2008 at 12:05 pm
Actually there was a male version of Phoenix in Excalibur. Although technically it was a merger of Phoenix 2 and Captain Britian, plus how could be forget about Prime Phoenix. No I’m not talking about Optimus Prime, I’m talking about Prime from Ultraverse/Malibu you know the brand that Marvel killed off right after purchasing.
November 26th, 2008 at 12:15 pm
If they bring back Death’s Head v1 only to Rule 63 him, I’m going to blow a gasket, yes?
November 27th, 2008 at 12:25 pm
…and thank YOU for reminding with yet another reason why I’ve stopped following Marvel comics (unless they contain Deadpool cameos). Top Cow is so much better (any chance of a Grifter strip? Maybe Fathom? God knows there’s enough Turner-mocking material, something along the lines of ‘women’s bodies don’t look like that!’).
November 27th, 2008 at 1:27 pm
New Marvel Crossovers are released. They are Grey Hulk,Human Torch,Black Spiderman, and Wolverine.I saw all of them except Wolverine.
November 27th, 2008 at 2:22 pm
Top Cow? Seriously? Top “mammories rules” Cow? That top cow? …
Hmm (bite his own tongue to prevent comment)
November 30th, 2008 at 7:41 pm
No, female Ghost Rider that I know of anyway, but there was a female Prof.X and Loki is chick now

December 2nd, 2008 at 6:58 pm
I’m surprised no-one has mentioned the Female Captain Britain, who, when he returned, changed her name to “LionHeart” and went nuts…
December 5th, 2008 at 9:03 pm
I had a similar thought a few years back but I’ve always gone with Daredoll myself…
December 6th, 2008 at 10:50 am
Gosh, I detest with every fiber of mybeing the girl versions of characters. Its like they cant be original. D8 I dont mind girl superheros though as long as they have thier OWN theme.
December 19th, 2008 at 2:01 am
The Venom symbiote’s been on at least one woman. And there were a few girl symbiote’s during Venom’s six ish series a few years ago.
December 21st, 2008 at 8:30 pm

January 7th, 2009 at 9:30 pm

January 21st, 2009 at 7:34 am
NURSE Doom? How goes that the best pun has not be commented? I laughed five years worth of life just for that!
Not even Doctoress Victoria Von Doom…
January 27th, 2009 at 2:49 am
There was a female Iron Man not too long ago… sort of. She was still Tony Stark though. Oh Ultron, you wacky funster.
February 2nd, 2009 at 10:52 pm
The Marvel Mangaverse had a female Iron Man, Iron Girl, her name was Antoinette “Toni” Stark. Also, I saw fanart of Hellgirl and Wolverina. They don’t sexist, but wouldn’t that be something?
February 11th, 2009 at 11:19 pm
EXIST, DAMMIT!!! EXIST!!!!
May 20th, 2009 at 11:04 am
I just loathe the female counterparts of male superheroes, i prefer the stand alone ones with a somewhat original name and a hint of creativity.
May 25th, 2009 at 3:26 pm

November 5th, 2009 at 10:22 pm

November 5th, 2009 at 10:30 pm
at least i think its ultamo. what was name of the killer robot tony stark made that killed the avengers?
December 3rd, 2009 at 10:06 pm
It was well done with Wolverine’s clone, but really, Marvel.
December 20th, 2009 at 8:45 pm
DC comics has less female versions of characters. Aside from alternate reality/universe stories, Dc hasn’t gone crazy about making female versions of every character. The only female versions of characters from DC that I can name are: Hawk and Dove, Hawkwoman, Robin, Supergirl and Power Girl (Earth-Two Supergirl).
April 12th, 2010 at 9:48 am
The Venom symbiote’s been on at least one woman. And there were a few girl symbiote’s during Venom’s six ish series a few years ago.
August 15th, 2010 at 12:32 am
They even have a freaking She-Deadpool!!!!!!!
March 9th, 2011 at 11:25 am

July 9th, 2011 at 11:25 pm
The female version of Iron Man is Rescue worn by Pepper Potts.
July 9th, 2011 at 11:28 pm
And yes, there is a Lady Deadpool who’s a member of the Deadpool Corps.
August 31st, 2011 at 5:16 pm
