Lil Formers #147: Sideswipe
Has bugged me since the fall that they actually have a vehicle in TF2 that has a classic Transformers counterpart… and yet they give him the wrong name. LAME.
PS: Int he back that’s a tiny preview of the new litho I’ll be selling at Botcon in a couple weeks. Animated fans, don’t say I never give you any love! More info on that very soon!

Actually, Sideswipe, Beat and Tracks, all three are in TF2 but with different alt modes. Sideswipe also has an evil twin called Sideways…. dunno if he was in G1

Comic’s pretty good, nice gag of forum-hate and just how little Sideswipe actually got to do (of course, I’m not the expert here, so I wouldn’t know).
I think the best way to see whether this character is Sideswipe or Sideswipe-in-name-only (like the patented Storm-in-name-only or Godzilla-in-name-only) is to see how he behaves in the film.
Sideswipe is a reckless, talented fighter who’s not above bending rules and getting dirty. Tracks is a pretty boy hotshot who, like Sideswipe’s brother Sunstreaker, loves his alt-mode a little too much. If movie Sideswipe turns out to be a reckless, talented fighter with a flare for style, we’ll know it’s Sideswipe. After all, it’s not the chassis, mate. It’s the spark inside it.
Maybe the movie makers read the TF Wiki and watched the G1 cartoons and are planning to include a ‘Jet Judo’ moment where Sideswipe takes on the Seekers. If we’re REALLY good, maybe they’ll throw in his hands-that-turn-into-jackhammers. XD

Sideways was in Armada. He was seriously freaking scary.
In relation to the comic, they did try to get a Sideswipe character in Animated. The result was some sort of horrible Ironman duck thing. The reaction was so negative that they renamed him “Afterburn.”
On an unrelated note, that print in the background looks awesome! ^^

Poor Sideswipe. At least they could have painted him read… There will be a red repaint of ROTF SW, but will not be called Sideswipe… Probably thet did not call him Tracks for coptright reasons. A blue Tracks repaint would be amazing.

I’m fine personally with Sideswipe as a corvette and his robot mode is awesome as hell… or maybe that’s just me. But one thing I have to ask about the Animated Lithograph… why? It’s not that I don’t like it it’s just you’ve made your opinion on Animated perfectly clear so why would you make a lithograph about it?

@ RockOnMegatron; Although there was a toy in Robots in Disguise called Sideways, he was not featured in the cartoon. However the Sideways from Armada was, and turned out to be an extention of Unicron himself.

Well, if we could live with Jazz going from Porche to Pontiac, then we can live with Sideswipe going from Lamborghini to Corvette. Besides, above all else, these movies are a GM promotion machine.

No doubt given Bay’s love of all things non-g1, he’ll probably give ROTF Sideswipe the same character as Armada Sideswipe, being a bit useless and feeble. As for animated being cancelled, hasbro have probably just panicked about losing potential movie merch pennies to folk buying animated stuff and asked the tv folk to take a break until the movie hullaballoo has died down.

Yeah, it was reported a few months ago that plans for season 4 were halted and that Animated would end with season 3.
Apparently Hasbro is planning something new to hit TV screens next year. There are rumors that they are working on a Transformers: Universe cartoon, based on the video that appeared on Monkeybar tv

I really hurts that they cancelled animated! Especially when the last couple of episodes were so well written. And that hasbro universe clip looks like crap, no hatin’ jsut my opinion.

As for the clip, it’s just a promo flash animation. If the rumors are true that a new series will be made based on this, you can imagine that the stories will be more involved and the animation far better. Consider this clip just a test phase….again…if the rumors are true. For that’s all they are as far as we know at this stage.

I know they made a Bionicle live action movie and gave the Bionicles Transformer names…… but they barely spoke and were hardly in the movie.

I don’t see why altmodes should dictate the character.
Hell, if he was called Tracks there’d be even more backlash. Robot mode is definitely the look of a warrior like Sideswipe was, rather than a snooty flying car like Tracks.
And who says Animated is canned? There has been no talk one way or another about it. All it is is fanboys pulling a “chicken little”.
The third season hasn’t even ended yet. We didn’t hear any confirmation about season 3 until well after season 2 ended.
I mean I can understand why most don’t want Animated to end… it is the most awesome Transformers fiction ever… but still, this rampant paranoia is getting annoying.

TF Animated is not cancelled. It just hasn’t been renewed yet. New episodes probably won’t be out for a while so Hasbro can market the ROTF line.

I think you’re mistaken RockOnMegatron. Season three has only 13 episodes (counting Transwarped as three episodes). And Endgame would be episode 12 and 13. Although there were some reports that the final episode may be twice as long.

It’s not so much that Sideswipe was swapped out , the whole Autobot brothers concept was shifted over. For the most part, I just take everything G1 out of the equation when I think about the Movie. Prime is a big rig and the similarities end there. That G1 one names are used at all (Megs and Prime notwithstanding) are a courtesy and not to be taken for granted. Comparing G1 and the movies is a pointless endeavor. And yes TFA is history and I wouldn’t expect anything more in the way of cartoons until Hasbro hammers out their deal with Discovery Networks for a new channel.

lol, yeah. Totally. I was excited when I found out that Sideswipe was gonna be in it, but dissapointed that Sunstreaker wasn’t. I thought maybe they were leaving Sunstreaker as a surprise, until I found out there’s another set of twins that they made up for this movie. Now I have one fear.
ARMADA SIDESWIPE! I soooooo hope they don’t make 07 Sideswipe like Armada Sideswipe. He was wussy, clingy, and he couldn’t shoot. Needless to say, I like Armada, but Armada Sideswipe sucks. They better NOT ruin this character in the new movie coming up next month (that looks totally kick-aft).

Well, its obvious that there will be a “G1 Tracks” repaint. I dont care what they name it but then again I’m only getting good G1 repaints to add to my classics collection. A G1 repainted 100-dollar ripoff Devastator that doesnt transform will NOT be one of them.
PS: Please make fun of the haz-blo rip-off devvy! please?

1/ it looks like a bad powerrangers zord (they even had a constructi-zord)
2/ The movie design looks awful
3/ little kids wil not be getting a 100 dollar mess of a toy
4/ the japanese already made a smaller and better, fully transforming devastator.

Sideswipe does not have an evil twin. Just because Sideways has side in his name does not make him Sidewipes twin. Also Sideswipe transforms into a Corvette and not a Chevy Trax. The Trax is Mudflap.

I hope there can be a sequel series for TFA but I hope it turns out better than Energon or Beast machines
I mainly want a sequel so it fills in unresolved plot holes in Animated like what happened to Wreck-gar, Meltdown, Blackarachnia, Waspinator, Soundwave, Ratbat & Laserbeak, constructicons, the clones, Lockdown, Swindle and team chaar.
And Blurr who’s death is still a little ambiguous.
