Lil Formers #158: Devastated
Okay so, story about this one:
The G1 Devastator (you know..the real one heh) I sketched out as part of a Livestream broadcast of myself drawing. While drawing, lightning knocked out my power and I lost all my work (save often kids!). So I gave up ont hat, and drew an Optimus instead for the Livestream (which I’ll posted a link to on the main page!). I didn’t feel like redrawing Dev so I was going to think of something else for the strip… but I then remembered- Livestream saves all your broadcasts! So I went to the devastator video, screencapped the part when I had sketched Devastator, and inked over the lowres screen cap. Phew!
The G1 Dev actually turned out really nice, will post a bigger version probably on my deviantart page
Note - for anyoen asking why Movie dev has 2 yellow legs (instead of one yellow, one green as int he movie) I was using the original character concept art as reference, which does have 2 yellow legs. I don’t think this is available online anywhere, so I can’t post it up to show you guys.

Sweet. And…G1 Devastator took a hit from a 100 yard slingshot propelled plasma grenade! Lamo movie version couldn’t take one from a rail gun…please! We know which one rules! G1 forever!

Unicron- Crap. You’re right. I just hated ROTF Dev. so much, I was looking for something. Actually, that whole movie just kinda sucked. Are they rumoring anything for the third one yet? Maybe a Unicron villian?

Yeah, Unicron is going to be the villain , he’ll get juiced up on rum and coke, then Jet-Optimus will combine with Primus that will appear from no-where and kick Unicrons’ a** to AA

I have to admit, I did like the look of TF2 Devastator. Well, except for letting everything hang out, of course.

Lolness. The main problem I had with the “rail gun” thing is that it came out of NOWHERE. And I like everything about Devestator EXCEPT for the wrecking “balls.” And the fact that none of the 5 vehicles who formed him actually HAD wrecking balls. And how somehow, he could suck up huge, heavy stuff, but the small, incredibly light humans manage to avoid getting sucked up. Other than that, he was awesome.
Speaking of the humans, did anyone besides me find Leo to be COMPLETELY uesless? And Skids and Mudflap to be racist?

Wait, I’m sorry. Those are Rampage legs. For some reason I thought the treads were truck beds.
Seems to be a constant problem of actually drawing asymmetrical characters as such, though. Animated Ratchet’s lack of a busted headcrest bugged me too. Makes them hard to identify when you just mirrorflop em. Where’s the giant truss crane kibble for Devastator? G1 got his little shovel arm, after all…

Skids and Mudflap were racist. They may not have been intended to be (Tom Kenny and Reno Wilson, their voice actors, reportedly ad-libbed this portrayal), but it sure came across that way. They were pretty funny for their first few appearences, but after they stole the spotlight from much more awesome bots such as the Arcee sisters and Sideswipe, they just got annoying. My brother said that if the two of them had beaten Devestator, he would’ve walked out of the theater right then. But thankfully, they didn’t… but of course, like a typical TF fan, he then complained about how the “rail gun” thingy came out of NOWHERE.
And while I’m on the subject… Matt, THANK YOU for NOT drawing the “balls.”

Sideswipe, thankfully, was not voiced by Jason Griffith like early rumors said, instead being voiced by Andre Sogliuzzo (a.k.a King Bumi and Hakoda on Avatar). Not that it made much difference, since, at most, he had 4 LINES. Oh, well. At least Starscream had more than 2.

Devastator is a hard concept to swalow. Evil, destroying thingies masquerading as construction machines, and then combine to become one witless destruction machine? Constructicon should be Constructibot and teaches young kids on the beauty of careful plannings and buildings things in structural harmonies.
But then again, Autobots need a menace just to show how awesome they are

@Zenstrive: The Animated Constructicons started out kind of neutral (they met Bulkhead, called themselves Constructobots, then met Megatron and became Constructicons, because Megs had the better oil), so that sort of thing did kind of happen.
Also, the G1 Constructicons had VERY confusing origins. Early season 1 suggested Megatron built them on Earth, mid-season 2 (Secret of Omega Supreme) suggested they were once Autobots and were put through Megatron’s “Robo-Smasher,” and Five Faces of Darkness suggested that EIGHT Constructicons BUILT Megatron. Wha?

@ Jarkes - Megatron did say that they constructed them on Earth. But it could have meant just the Constructicon bodies, not that they were born on Earth. And the Secret of Omega Surpreme did say that Omega had chased them across the galaxy all the way to Earth. So it could have been just a retro fit. Also the appearance in Five Faces of Darkness was inside a Matrix quest that Rodimus was having. A dreamlike vision that doesn’t have to be the exact truth, just as long as the matrix could relay the message it wanted to give Rodimus.

I was shown this site a few days ago, and I love it here. This was the first Comic I saw, And now I’ve seen every one of them… I really think these are amazingly funny, and I too like the TF comics more. I have two themes that I hope you’ll eventually get to:
1. A Nintendo based Comic
2. I think you should do a few more comics based on the ROTF toy line. By that I mean, maybe just one or two, once in a while, would be great. I love how detailed the toys are, and I’d like to see how you can… [i]Transform them[/i]

Yea no worries about the two yellow legs, the writers weren’t too worried about continuity with in that show those guys were killed, inexplicably resurrected, and put in two different places at the same time that having two yellow legs is no prob

thing is rotf devastator is as bad as his dad. if yu go back many many comic strips yull see g1 dev’s had been drinking and he swapped an arm with a predacon i believe. so basically its his fault for being such a bad father. going back to the thingy of who his mother is, i reckon its the predacons.

whats more sad is a rail gun is not even new tech they have been experimenting with electro magnetic firing mechanisms for big guns for ages and we know have a plan that shoots lasers to down over planes. youd think 4 milion yr old robots would be kinda adapted to that stuff

I’ll admit, I like the first two movies-the jury’s out on the 3rd, still, since it just felt, I dunno…weird-but Michael Bay fucks up a lot.
But, I did find that part funny in the movie.
