Lil Formers #161: Disney/Marvel
My take on Disney’s recent acquisition of Marvel.
Initial predictions:
-will probably make tons of money for both Marvel & Disney.
-Boom Studios will be losing all their Muppet, Pixar, and other Disney licenses once their current contract it up
-will it be good or bad for Marvel creatively? big question mark, though Disney has a pretty poor record creatively the in recent years. I don’t read Marvel though these days anyways (despite being a Marvel zombie in my teens), so why should I care, heh.
Discuss!

Meh, in my opinion, it’s not like Disney is gonna force Marvel to change anything. They’ll probably just let the Marvel people do the same they’ve always done, only now Disney will be raking in the profits.
If anything, Marvel might make some Disney centric comic books and Disney will allow them to use their animation studios for their animated pics.

It would be more realistic if you put syndrone in mickeys place or the incredibles in the fantasic 4, but the Mickey idea is funnier because he’s not that threatening. Good work!

I’m a mighty marvelite, so I’ve looked into this quite a bit. The idea is that Disney’s not going to get involved in the production of Marvel Comics, but more that they now have a certain amount of access to the character pool as well as the returns from Marvel Studios Movies. All of the current licenses (Sony with Spider-man, 20th Century Fox with X-men) are currently sitting where they are. Nobody has said anything about changing anything yet, but we’ll see what happens. Essentially it’s just another revenue source for Disney and they’re not going to rock the boat on the currently most successful (by a lot of money) comic book producer in the world.

I really don’t think it’d matter even if they did get involved. I know, disney is seen as kid stuff, but at least look at some action-based animated series both have done. there were some really poorly made shows in the same era as disney’s GARGOYLES. HELLO. GARGOYLES. ANYONE. hell, if marvel starts making a gargoyles comic, that’ll be amazing!

Erm… As much as i agree w/ your statement (belive me, I LOATHE this announcement AND Disney itself), I feel as though you have ignored a very creative new disney property: Phineas and Ferb. Yes it’s for kids and yes the premise isn’t much, but I refer to two major points: A.) the creators both worked on The Simpsons and Roko’s Modern Life with one also working on Family Guy, and B.) they actually cue jokes at adults as well (case in point: one character references lolcats by talking about humorous images of cats online like “Invisible Cheeseburger”; case closed!)

The evil empire of Disney has taken over the world

I’m actually quite disturbed about Marvel being bought out by Disney. To me, the two are good, sometimes even great-when they’re separate. I hope Disney doesn’t take Marvel’s edge out of it in favour of more “wholesome” shit. Everything in it’s place…
