Lil Formers #162: Turtles Forever
For more Lil Formers head to www.LilFormers.com
I may have mentioned it before but, as a kid TMNT was my very favorite thing to draw. I had a ton of the toys, and the Archie TMNT adventure comics were the earliest comics I collected as a series.
If you’re unaware - Turtles Forever is an upcoming DVD movie where the original 80’s turtles meet the modern version (through some dimensional portal or something…the odl show used portals a lot heh). Though in actually, it won’t REALLY be the original turtles, since they didn’t bring back ANY of the original cast. They’re using all new voice actors. Very unfortunate as this COULD have been pretty cool.

what would DON do?!
theyd like, trade info or something and create some kind of awesome portal and wind up on cybertron. ^^

STABBEH new don vs old don NEW DON GO
October 8th, 2009 at 1:14 am
The only “modern” version I’ve seen is the TMNT CG movie, but assuming they are similar to the “modern” series, what is really different about them? Raph is much more badass than “rude, but cool”, but the other three seem to be pretty much the same as the classic versions… no?
October 13th, 2009 at 3:45 pm
Donatello and Michaelangelo are pretty much the same, Leonardo is also more seriously and kind of takes the leadership and ‘commanding’ the turtles to a higher level. IIRC the newer series resemble the original comics more than the old series. I love both so yay for more TMNT

Classic Rafi’ better run before he gets stabbed by modern Rafi’ (I know, I meant Raphael). XD
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:32 am
…I persume they went from Pizzaholic to somewhat… dangerous
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:32 am
Modern Raphael looks badass. (although I prefer old school Raphael)
Great comic!
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:32 am
I’d rather see the ultraultraultra violent Mirage Comics Turtles meet the 1987 cartoon Turtles, myself.
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:33 am
*rotflmao* Stabby!
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:33 am
Weren’t the ORIGINAL turtles comic book characters and darker than the cartoon, done in a style reminiscent of Cerberus the Aardvark?
Oh wait, looks like someone else already mentioned that.
You have to expect to get called on this kind of thing when you write a comic for geeks, I fear.
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:33 am
sounds cool, will have to look out for that. Shame about the fact they couldn’t get the original VA’s
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:34 am
I would bet they could have brought them back if they wanted to.
Rob Paulsen is the only one of the original cast that has consistently worked. Everyone else either disappeared or hasn’t had too many roles. Townsend Coleman still works, but with Transformers animated gone I bet he’s looking for work and before that he hasn’t had too many roles, though he’s had work. Cam Clarke is still in the business and I don’t see anything that would have prevented him from getting in on the project. Barry Gordon is only doing an internet talk show so he may be retired, but even still they could have easily gotten half of the original turtles, 3 is they tried, and all 4 is Barry Gordon was willing.
Without the original voice actors this movie will be pointless. Obviously this is being done for fans of the original show as kids won’t care about this at all, and without the original voice actors there really isn’t any reason for adult fans to see this. Also, let’s not forget that the original series went into a darker tone in it’s later seasons so it isn’t even in any continuity to the original season.
I predict a weak imitation of the show we grew up with. The old style turtles will be goofey and the modern ones will be too serious and in the end they will learn from each other….just like every other inter dimensional cross over like this.
Sorry…long rant…good comic
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:34 am
The fact they dont use the original voice actors, makes me sad. I was brought up with that cartoon! That and action man.
Nothing to this day beats the original shredder
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:34 am
I didn’t realize that they weren’t using the original actors for the 80’s turtles. That’s kind of lame. They probably wanted too much money to reprise their roles, but I’m just guessing.
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:35 am
Here’s Peter Laird’s blog entry about the movie, including a poster concept.

November 3rd, 2009 at 2:36 am
What’s up guys? I figured I’d come here and clear some stuff up. (some spoilers ahead)
Well the reason they couldn’t get the original actors was because they’re all union voice actors while 4kids entertainment is a non-union company. That and the fact that 4kids works out of NY and probably wouldn’t fly anybody in.
This isn’t a huge deal, I’ve heard the voices. Raphael is spot on, Leonardo sounds alot like Season 1 Leo (the actor changed his pitch throughout the old show), Michelangelo is good but inconsistent, but Donatello is pretty bad. The guys not a bad Don, per se, he just don’t sound like the Don from the old show. Listen for yourself here:
http://www.zshare.net/audio/6345797342d95498/
And both sets of turtles DO meet the Mirage TMNT (which were violent, but certainly not ultraultraultra violent).
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:36 am
Wow, this sounds pretty bizarre, can’t wait to check it out.
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:36 am
Man, I missed last week’s strip!!! First and last time.
Anyway, the silly original TMNT series was one of my favorites too. I have not followed the new one, but this time-crossover sounds fun. Looking forward to watch it.
Hope ol’ Bebop and Rocksteady travel to the present too…
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:36 am
As much as I loved the original voice cast, it doesn’t kill to have them missing. As it is, some of the characters’ voices were replaced by alternates in the later seasons anyway - and as a kid, I never noticed (it’s pretty jarring as an adult, though), be that as it may, I’ve heard the audio for Turtles Forever, and the new ’80’s toon character voice cast sounds good. Bebop is probably the best sounding one.
And - spoiler alert - the Mirage Turtles appear as well.
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:37 am
That’s reminder the version of Image Comics.
Where Raph are a Scarfece, Leo has los your hand, and Don are a cyborg XD
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:37 am
You know it would have been nice to give some work to Corey Feldman. I mean come on.
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:37 am
Awesome. It’s just awesome.
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:38 am
Oh how the times have changed.
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:38 am
I enjoyed the first five seasons of the Modern turtles animated series. The darker tones and the cinematic styles to the fight scenes were brilliant. But what has happened to the animation? I saw an episode from season 7 the other day, and it looked very weak and leaning towards the 80’s version.
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:38 am
Frankly, the current TMNT cartoon (at least the non-Flash Foward one) is the only 4Kids show that doesn’t SUCK. Most likely because it’s not a dub. Now I liked the original cartoon too, but the whole “4Kids is a non-union company, so they can’t get the original voice actors who are part of unions” thing sounds like another one of their lame excuses.
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:38 am
You don’t know unions very well, Jarkes. I wouldn’t be surprised if the union wouldn’t let the actors take part. They can be jerks like that.
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:39 am
And then *both * of them get stabbed by the original black-and-white comic book characters that got kiddified into the first cartoon….
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:40 am
You know… I think the whole “union” thing is why Scott McNeil (and possibly Gary Chalk) didn’t get to be in Transformers Animated…
But 4Kids HAS made some lame excuses before. Lame excuse for not releasing uncut versions of the animes they dub (or at least Japanese versions with English subtitles). “There’s just not a big enough market for the unedited version.” Seriously, they OBVIOUSLY don’t pay attention to the fans who hate them for butchering almost everything.
And seriously, Matt, can you do a comic about Zelda sometime? Or perhaps Nintendo in general… As long as you don’t make fun of the Wii. That would incur my wrath. XD
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:41 am
And this is just more proof that 4Shame needs to hang up the towel and quit while they’re behind. I feel that this idea would be best as a comic. At least then we could imagine the correct voices and only have ourselves to blame for screwing them up.
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:41 am
The audio is certainly interesting, though there is so much screaming by the audience, at what I am sure is nothing to scream about, that i can’t hear much of it (at least at the start).
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:41 am
I too came here to point out that the `modern’ turtles are actually closer in characterisation to the original comic than the cartoon above referred to as `classic’. And while Im not the first to mention it, I still do so for the sake of conforming to nerd stereotypes. I wish to belong.
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:42 am
I would be interested to see the villains meet each other
Old Shredder: wait, my parallel counter part is both me and Krang?!
Krang: …
also for fun
Old Splinter: I was Yoshi, and I merged with a rat.
New Splinter: I was a rat, master Yoshi’s pet…and he was magical.
(funny thing is the movie didn’t go along with the cartoon, but stuck with the comic versions).
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:43 am
Sadly due to union issues they couldn’t get them back… From what I read a lot of the original voice actors are very loyal to the union, and 4Kids is a non-union company so in the end they couldn’t get anyone. I’m not sure if 4Kids even bothered to try. I kinda hope they try again before the DVD release but I’m not gonna hold my breath… The comic turtles are in it too from what I read in black and white. People who saw it at Comic Con have said good things so far though so I’m excited. I think its a nice way to end the new series. A shame it got canceled, but its nice that it got to go out with a bang.
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:43 am
@Jarkes
Actually to be fair, 4Kids did release 2 uncut Shaman King DVDs and 4 uncut Yu-Gi-Oh DVDs and I’ve read mixed things. Some say they sold well, others say they sold badly. 4Kids did try to release Yu-Gi-Oh subbed and uncut on their Youtube account but apparently one of the Japanese voice actors had an issue with it and they had to take it down… But they’re going to start release plenty of other things subbed. They’re trying to make up for the past which is great. Though they should have done that a long time ago when they promised One Piece fans a faithful dub…
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:44 am
Jarkes said: “You know… I think the whole “union” thing is why Scott McNeil (and possibly Gary Chalk) didn’t get to be in Transformers Animated…”
No, that’s because McNeil and Chalk live and work in Canada. David Kaye moved to California quite some time back. Not everything is a conspiracy, friend.
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:44 am
@Chris McFeely:
Oh, right. Still, it would’ve been awesome if Kaye had made a “Yeeeees…” joke… Although he did PLENTY of those in Bee in the City…
@Mighty Snorlax:
There’s nothing 4Kids can do to make up for the past now. They should’ve done it a long time ago… Oh, here’s another lame mistake regarding Sonic X: When someone mentioned the VAST game inconsistencies in their dub, Michael Hackney (that’s what I call him), BLATANTLY said, “I have never watched the cartoons, played the games, or read the comics.” In other words, he tried to dub something which he knew nothing about, and didn’t bother to learn about, because that makes PERFECT sense.
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:44 am
And instead of released subbed and uncut versions of the anime they dub on their Youtube thing, they should, oh I don’t know, release them ON DVD? You know, like EVERY OTHER DUBBING COMPANY?
Huff… huff… I gotta stop ranting like that. XD
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:45 am
Z, and others, pretty sure the strip isn’t so much about the “original” original turtles as it does say in the comment “original animated show” not “original turtles” seeing as its making fun of the DVD movie coming out where the olde cartoon’s turtles meet the newer cartoon’s turtles. So yes it would be the “original animated show” even if its not the “original Ninja turtles”.
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:45 am
Old Raph’s sais are too exaggeratedly cartoony. The old cartoon had accurate weapons.
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:45 am
Who gives a **** Krok? Nothing else about him looks exactly like the Old Raph.
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:45 am
you should draw one where TFA meets G1.
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:46 am
Raph FTW
November 9th, 2009 at 8:33 am
Reminds me how much Knuckles from Sonic the hedgehog changed.
November 11th, 2009 at 6:05 am
dude, the new ones lame lookin, though im not a fan of ninja turtles
December 18th, 2009 at 9:04 pm
GO RAPH (on the right)! STAB HIM! STAB HIM!
July 28th, 2010 at 5:01 pm
*sigh* not bringing back the original cast? Poor Don…… *mimicking Fight Club* His name was Robert Paulsen. His name was Robert Paulsen. His name was Robert Paulsen…
August 29th, 2010 at 7:30 pm
The actual movie’s actually really similar to this. Has anyone else seen it yet? It’s pretty cool.
September 17th, 2010 at 3:19 am
@ Jarkes:
Actually, some of the best advise I;ve heard in theatre, is when you are doing a show, to not go and “study up” on previous shows. Go into it with your own character. If you try to imitate the past, it will be a clear imimitation and won’t hit its mark. If you take a fresh idea though, you easily fit into your fellow actor’s takes and can flow with the plot better. Because likely, the plot won’t mirror the original either.
December 16th, 2010 at 12:20 pm
(wiggle wiggle) that makes me giggle
June 26th, 2011 at 6:43 am
This is the best TMNT movie made so far
Voice actors for the 80s cartoon are right, at least they have the right voices. Leonardo sounds different, Donatello sounds the same
I wish the classic cartoon turtles commented on Casey Jones being a buddy who removes the hokey mask, not the over crazed vigilante who they always need to regain his trust
I wish also that they haven’t used the design’s for Apri, Karail & Master Splinter of the 2k3 series from season 7, those designs are bleh
Funniest scene is with the original Shredder, as well as scenes where smart-mouth Raph breaks the fourth wall

Zune and iPod: Most people assess the Zune to the Reach for, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly tiny and light-weight it is, I take into account it for being a fairly special hybrid that combines attributes of the two the Feel and the Nano. It is really very colorful and pretty OLED display is slightly more compact than the feel display, but the player itself feels really a bit more compact and lighter. It weighs about 2/several as very much, and is noticeably smaller sized in width and height, while currently being just a hair thicker.
