Lil Formers #164: New Games!
Such a busy week I actually just forgot to do a comic! Well to make up for it here’s a bunch of quick strips about all the recent video games I’ve picked up and some of my thoughts on each:
Professor Layton & the Diabolical Box:
Straight on continuation of the last game. Nothing innovative here, if you loved the first one (which I do) you will love this one. I just wish they’d impor tthem faster…we’re only on part 2 where japn is up to part 4, plus a film coming!
Scribblenauts:
So much fun and so addictive. I can’t believe they have a Manticore. The above strip is not even a joke, that’s really how I beat that level.
Muramasa:
Gorgeous visuals, but some times a tough little game(fought Boss #1 three times)! Was my favorite game at E3 (did I mention I went to E3?), and glad to finally own it. (PS: The same company also brought over King of Fighters 12, which was my biggest disappointment of E3. I expected MUCH better sprite work…
Beatles Rock Band:
Good enough game. I like Beatles songs, but the music is very tame. There are very few Beatles songs you can ‘rock out’ to, so not as exciting as the regular rock band. Scored a Hofner bass for the girlfriend though without having to buy the mega set, woot.

LOL scribblenauts is awesome!!! XD wholeheartedly agree with you on that one matt.
October 1st, 2009 at 10:17 pm
Scribblenauts is indeed awesome - especially when you start finding the really cool stuff they put in (hint: Internet memes are your friend)

My brother played Beatles Rock Band and he liked it. (since he’s a fan of The Beatles).

I typically get that level of frustration when drumming while simultaneously talking. Love Beatles: Rock Band, own Layton and Scribblenauts but haven’t… actually… played them yet.
October 1st, 2009 at 10:35 pm
I heard they’ve actually got Mega Man and a Pokemon or two in Scribblenauts.
Memes? Does that mean there’s Mudkips and Giant Enemy Crabs? XD
October 1st, 2009 at 10:36 pm
Wait, no Mario and Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story? Think of the jokes you could make there!
October 1st, 2009 at 11:59 pm
I gotta go get Scribblenauts! Any game where you can actually do that has got to be awesome!
October 2nd, 2009 at 12:00 am
Do you have to play the first Professor Layton to understand the second one?
October 2nd, 2009 at 12:00 am
I can’t beat the first boss in Muramasa… maybe I just don’t get it? OR maybe everyone else is playing on EASY mode !! losers.
October 2nd, 2009 at 12:01 am
RockBand:Beatles is tame, eh? I saw a PS3 game entitled “Singstar: Queen” this weekend. While it’s missing ‘Princes of the Universe’ it has several hits from the band.

HOLY CRAP SCRIBBLENAUTS!!!! I LOVE THIS COMIC!!!
October 2nd, 2009 at 12:01 am
@Jarkes:
There is no need to have played the first Prof Layton to understand the second, but you might spoil some of the story from the first one is all.
@Jeff S.
It’s hard man! use your special moves, and switch swords whenever your unsheathing move is charged back up. just gotta do a lot of flying around with your dash moves to avoid the guy’s blades.
October 2nd, 2009 at 12:33 am
havent played skriible nauts but thats how you beet the level seriously wow i mean wow what the heck
October 2nd, 2009 at 12:33 am
@klunk:
Actually, how you beat a level in Scribblenauts is limited only to your imagination. You could probably beat it a few hundred different ways. Wait, are you like, “Wow, that’s cool” or “Wow, that’s stupid?”
October 2nd, 2009 at 12:33 am
on scribblenauts you can summon Cthulu
October 2nd, 2009 at 1:21 am
It’s games like Scribblenauts that make me curse not owning a DS.
October 2nd, 2009 at 1:21 am
I knew it! I just knew you had to put a scribblenauts thing on! Professor layton made me laugh so hard!
October 2nd, 2009 at 1:21 am
that scribblenauts part reminds me of a word i once heard…if i said it id get in deep trouble cuz its something to do with hobos and man who fancy each other…if mr.moylan says its alright then ill put it. lmao. i made the part of the first three dots up with prof layton!

Wow, awesome comic this week. I love Beatles RB, but I agree with you: There’s not many songs you can “Rock out” to. Still, the story mode couldn’t be better.
Scribblenauts: Getting soon. I’m glad to hear it’s as great as I thought. As someone asked above, are there really Pokemon it in? I need to know!
@Matt One thing: Make sure that you make an awesome Pokemon-themed comic when HeartGold and SoulSilver come out.
October 2nd, 2009 at 2:01 am
Well, I’ve only done the online demos for Professor Layton. I’m broke 95% of the time. Besides, I’m more of a Pokemon/Yu-Gi-Oh! person.
October 2nd, 2009 at 2:01 am
@Smeargle2: Yeah, that would be pretty cool, but I don’t think Matt is much of a Pokemon fan. I wouldn’t know, though.
What particularly annoys me is that Link made a cameo in Lilformers 100 (when he started diversifying his comics’ subjects), and there STILL hasn’t been a Zelda comic.
October 2nd, 2009 at 2:01 am
@Jarkes & Smeargle2:
I have 493 Pokemon.
October 2nd, 2009 at 2:02 am
that was my birthdat i was hoping the new one would come out that day thanks you should have megs and galvatrion in the same one though a window or somthing id crises have megs freak out or more nitendo comics with samus or zelda like have rumble (purple not blue) get attack by a metriod
October 2nd, 2009 at 2:02 am
@Matt:
Action Replay? And… are you ever going to do a Zelda comic?
October 2nd, 2009 at 2:03 am
Heh…Scribblenauts being made into a comic panel was practically BEGGING to happen the second it came out. That panel is a perfect representation for the game.
…Which is odd for me to say, since I don’t actually OWN the game. *I really ought to have asked for it for my birthday…<.<;* I would want to see exactly how many puzzles I can solve…using a Chainsaw. *Zombies? CHAINSAW. Ball in tree? CHAINSAW! Need to cross a river? Well, I’ll just summon a rowboat…then power it with my CHAINSAW. :3 *
What else is Muramasa like? All I can tell from your panel of it is that some boy with spiky hair bathes with monkeys. Not…exactly…selling…the…game.
October 2nd, 2009 at 2:03 am
oh wat the hell im putting that word down anyway. here we go!
“hmm that scribble nauts strip reminds me of a word i once heard…i think it was hobosexual.”
October 2nd, 2009 at 2:04 am
is scribblenauts even out yet? probably is.. (i live in aus, so it may not be out there)
October 2nd, 2009 at 2:04 am
@Bioblast98:
It came out in the US on September 15th. I don’t know when it’s coming out in Australia.
October 2nd, 2009 at 2:05 am
LOL @ the scribblenauts. That game is freaking awesome. Kid you not I saw THIS happen on the start screen:
White Knight vs. Black Knight. White Knight wins. White Knight vs. Vampire. Vampire wins and turns the White Knight into a ZOMBIE. Vampire and Zombie go after the player Character. Player uses a rocket launcher to blow up the Zombie, but the rocket launcher doesn’t kill the Vampire. Player uses a wooden stake to kill the Vampire.
It also does Monster Trucks. I really love how a Car and a Sports Car are two different objects. So much work put into this game.
