Lil Formers #183: O Canada!
Might be an obscure superhero, but had to give Canada some props for breaking the Winter Olympic gold medal record this week, and at home to boot.
But for any of you Americans who think Canada is just a bunch of lumberjacks & curlers, check out this great little piece about the Canada/US relationship by Mr. Tom Brokaw:

Battle of the Caps?
I have to admit, I HAVE heard of Cap Canuck… but I also have to admit I’ve never read any of the comics. Mainly because I’ve never seen any…. My prairie town sucks big time on the entertainment scale.
But 14 gold. WHOO! Brockaw’s piece is interesting. It’s always interesting to see how other countries see Canada.

Being from newfoundland, one of the most eastern-most canadian provinces where hockey could be considered a prominent religion, it’s a bloody good thing Team canada beat Team America for the hockey gold medal. It would have sucked having to chip in for a new TV for my grandfather since I’m sure he’d have smashed it if they had lost.
But yah, that was a sweet hockey game, People crowding the streets, packing the bars, and even having to get thrown out of Best Buy at closing time just because they passed by, caught the game, and refused to leave. It was a pretty intense vibe throughout the GTA.
By the way, I think it would have been a better strip to have alpha flight sticking it to the avengers or X-men in hockey. But this is cool too.

@Jarkes: Yep. Captain Britain owned by Marvel Comics (CB/Excalibur/CB & MI:13). The TPB reprint stuff written by Alan Moore is quite good. If you like Moores writing & also comics, that is.

I would’ve been slightly more amused if Deadpool was in there claiming to be Canadian, just because, well, he isn’t. But he likes taking credit wherever he can, like how he’s always used to go on about being an X-Man or an Avenger in Cable & Deadpool.

Wow. Yeah, I think in Canada everyone loves overtime… many prefer endless overtimes over a shootout. In fact, overtime is the only closing ceremony we know how to do right.

, saying that “The United States of America” tecnically is “The States that are United in the American Continent”
Speaking of “Americans” I thought that everyone that lives on the American Continent is an American, from canadians to colombians all the way down to Argentina, thats why the rest of americans say the term specified: “North American” , “Central American” , “South American”.
The reason i say this, is cause I remembered a teacher from back in the day who used to joke about that, saying that it’s the U.S. fault for not having a real country name
But,…….the freemasons(like many of the founding fathers) and the rosicrucians claimed that the name “The United States of America” was thought in a long term, where the whole continent was to be one, under one flag, sorry for the out of place comment, i had a “head rush” it happens sometimes.
Soo…the real question is, does Cap. America work the whole continent?? cause i would really love to see him smack Hugo Chavez face first with the shield, and say what we all say when we see that dictator on tv: Shut up Chavez!! (yes, im north american)

Wowzas Gotta Say that video makes me proud to be a Canadian from Nova Scotia (birth place of hockey =P and Sidney Crosby). I got a little teary eyed watching it haha. Good call on postin’ it.

In the Superhero Squad cartoon Captain America “promoted” Wolverine to Captain Canada…so maybe that really is Wolverine.

I liked the ep of Super Hero Squad where Wolverine left the Squadies and joined Captain America’s captains of all nations team as Captain Canada. *lol* Captain Liechtenstein rocked!
Captain Britain is the ruler of the UK. Seriously. The Royal family let him rule the country! *lol*
That Tom Brokaw piece was cool tho. I live a couple hours south of B.C and have been thru that border before. Didn’t know that the peace arch was a War of 1812 thing. I guess it was a peace offering for burning Washington DC to the ground in 1814? *lol*

Oh Canada…what a great place. I was stationed at Loring AFB, ME for five years. In that time I had many opportunities to visit Canada and always found it one of the best places on the Earth. You all “dunn good” with the Games! So glad Canada won the hockey gold…especially as the last event of the Games. What a game that was!
I”ve also heard of Capt Canuck and Alpha Flight. Personally I’d have liked to see Snowbird. Hmmm, now I have to go fishing for my comics in storage,,,just to make sure I got the name right.

Dierna: It’s more likely that the Peace Bridge was the “truce” in the War of 1812. The future Canadians burned down the White House as a “don’t mess with me” act for the Yank’s burning of the City of York as I recall.

Hey that video didn’t say anything about the unity and teamwork of Canadian and American Transformer fans working to get store/country exclusives back and forth to each other over the border without getting caught. Now THAT is what being a good neighbor is all about!
Good comic Matt. It’s been a long time since I had seen/heard anything of Capt. Canuck. Would have been another memory covered in dust if you hadn’t brought it up. Keep the obscure stuff coming. I enjoy those refs. just as much as I do the TF’s.

Canada is awesome. Maybe Hasbro will give us Canadians a little more attention now that we have made Olympic history.

captain canuck aka the guardian, the sentinel , omega man, heather something rather, leader, as part of the alpha flight line got killed several times , reborn made a cybord , was a women, recently used as the omega man in the dark x-men comics line
