About the Comic
Here are answers to some of the questions you may have about Lil Formers. If you’d like to know more just give me a shout at matt@mattmoylan.com . I don’t always have the time to respond to everyone, but I do read all the fan mail!
WHAT THE HECK IS LIL FORMERS?
Lil Formers is a parody comic strip created, written, drawn, inked and coloured by me, Matt Moylan. It started off poking fun at all aspects of Hasbro’s Transformers mega-property (hence the ‘Formers’ in the title). Strips #1 to 100 are all TF-centric, but now with Strip #101 onward, I’m expanding the scope of things to cover all geeky, pop culture properties. So cartoons, comics, toys, video games….it’s all fair game now!
HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH LIL FORMERS?
As a comic strip, Lil Formers started out as just a piece of fan art I drew of the Transformes character Shockwave. I was really just taking a shot at drawing a Transformer for the first time, and since all I can draw half-decently is the cutesy “chibi”-style (just an amateur artist here guys!) that’s the style I went for. Well, Shockwave seemed a hit with TF message boarders, and after a few follow up strips it turned into a series. Yay!
Of course even before that I had an inkling to do something similar. Back when I worked at the ill-fated Dreamwave Productions (former holder of the TF comic book license), and inspired by Matt Nelson’s great Superdeformers web comics, I tried a few times to get a TF comedy comic series off the ground, but the project never totally came together. I certainly never considered drawing the thing myself.
WHERE ELSE CAN I READ LIL FORMERS?
In a few places actually! You can find it here at lilformers.com of course, the official home of the strip. You can also read a few exclusive strips you won’t find anywhere else at tfw2005.com. The staff and forum posters at TFW were a big part of of the strip’s initial success.
I also still do a full page of original TF-related gags for every issue of the official Hasbro Transfomers Collectors’ Club Magazine. And, the good folks at the 80s-cartoon-focused Cereal Geek Magazine also reprint a couple past Lil Formers strips every issue.
Lastly, you might want to check out my DeviantArt gallery. There you can see a bunch of artwork not featured here including fan commissions, special strips, and for-fun artwork.

PERSONAL BIO
Matt grew up in Longlac, a small town of 1500 people in northern Ontario (remote enough to be a three-hour drive from the nearest McDonald’s). After college in nearby Thunder Bay, he got his first comics job at Dreamwave Productions and moved out to big ol’ city of Toronto. That’s where he met his longtime and wonderful girlfriend Amy, as well as discovered Cyber City Comix (the universe’s cyberiest comic shop).
Amongst Matt’s many interesting interests of interestitude are animation (from South Park to Samurai7 to Super Friends), physics (quantum mechanics, general relativity, cosmology…it’s all keen), German-style gaming, camping & fishing (two things he must do more), and of course comics, toys, sci-fi and videogames.
